New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders will meet for the second day on Monday. The 2-day brainstorming session was to decide the party's prime ministerial candidate. Sources said the decision will be announced on September 20.
The RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had already conveyed to the BJP that Gujarat Chief Minister and party's poll panel chief Narendra Modi be named as the party's prime ministerial candidate right away. The BJP is, however, split on the issue with the LK Advani camp insisting that the decision on it should be taken only after Assembly elections in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are over.
Sources had told CNN-IBN that senior leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were against the decision of naming the party's prime ministerial candidate before state Assembly elections. '
Meanwhile, party leaders Arun Jaitley and Venkaiah Naidu said any delay on the issue will hamper the party prospects in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Even Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has backed Modi's candidature for prime ministerial post.
