Telangana decision is final, says Digvijaya Singh
Congress leader in charge of Andhra Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh made it clear that the decision has nothing to do with political loss or gain.

New Delhi: Congress General Secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh reiterated that there is no question of going back on Telangana. Talking to CNN-IBN Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai, he said, "the decision has been taken after a detailed discussion with all the stake holders including all political parties. It is not a hasty decision. The Centre will try its best to create Telangana before the coming general elections and the Andhra Pradesh Assembly polls."

Reacting to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's strident opposition to Telangana, he said, "It is very unfortunate that he is talking like this. But, he has a constituency to protect. I have been in constant touch with him. Because, the Andhra Congress leaders told us that the decision of the high command was binding on them."

He also dismissed the allegations made by the just retired Andhra DGP V Dinesh Reddy as baseless and motivated. He said, "Dinesh Reddy is a competent police officer. But, he has a reputation, which both of us are aware of. Why is he making such statements against the Chief Minister after he was denied an extension?"

Digvijaya Singh, who is facing a lot of criticism for fast tracking the decision on Telangana, made it clear that the decision has nothing to do with the political loss or gain.

He said, "If it was a political opportunism, we would not have decided the statehood at this juncture."

He assured to the people of Seemandhra region that all their concerns would be addressed. He said, "The Pollavaram irrigation project will be declared as a national project. The new capital will also be fully funded by the Centre".

He warned the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) not to provoke the people by making anti-Congress statements. He also described the indefinite fast by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and N Chandrababu Naidu as unfortunate. He said, "Chandrababu Naidu is my close friend. Jagan is like my own son. His father was a dear friend of mine. What they are now saying on the statehood is not true".

He rejected the predictions that the Congress will be decimated in the upcoming elections in the state. He said, "Poll surveys carry no credibility. In the recent Panchayat elections, the Congress has done very well in both Seemandhra and Telangana."
