New Delhi: With Congress today biting the electoral dust in Madhya Pradesh for the second time, party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia called for "collective introspection".
"We need to do collective introspection (on how to revive party fortunes in Madhya Pradesh)," Scindia told news channels as results of the assembly elections trickled in showing a clear victory for the incumbent BJP. Scindia admitted that despite putting in efforts the party fell short in the eyes of the public in the elections.
"There are a multitude of issues where the party did not perform well," he said without elaborating. Scindia, Union Minister of State for Communications and
IT, said the party did not perform well in Malwa region which accounts for 85 of the 230 assembly seats in the state.
"There is a lot of room for improvement," he said. Madhya Pradesh had witnessed some differences in the party over leadership in the election. A section of Congressmen sought to project Commerce Minister Kamal Nath as the leader when the AICC had deputed Suresh Pachouri as the President of the state unit of the party.
The BJP had won Madhya Pradesh in 2003 defeating the Congress which was in power for ten years.
