Uma Bharti Clarifies She is Taking a 3-year Hiatus from Elections After Announcing 'Retirement'
Union Minister for Sanitation and Drinking Water Uma Bharti, a former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, had on Sunday said that she won’t contest any election owing to knee problem and a troubled back.

Bhopal: Union minister Uma Bharti has clarified that she will stand for elections after three years after earlier saying that she will not be contesting anymore.

The Minister for Sanitation and Drinking Water said that she would remain in BJP and would make herself available for campaigning for the party as and when possible.

The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister had on Sunday said that she won’t contest any election owing to knee problem and a troubled back.

Speaking to the media at her residence in Bhopal, the MP from Jhansi claimed that the decision has nothing to do with the age factor as reported by section of media. I still have 17 years left, she said.

“It’s not about fatigue, it’s regarding incapability (physical) and my body needs a balanced nine to five like daily routine for at least three years without any constraints,” Bharti said, adding that she has no plans to enter the Rajya Sabha in this duration.

Saying that since the health issues were not that serious and could be dealt with weight loss and proper routine, she decided to take the break thinking the time was appropriate as senior leaders like PM Narendra Modi and others were around.

“I am younger than other colleagues including Prahlad Patel, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Kailash Vijayvargiya and Narendra Singh Tomar,” she said.

On her possible role in MP, she said. “I don’t yearn to campaign in MP, the only thing I long for is to seek blessings of the God,” she said. Bharti has been excluded from list of star campaigners for the by-polls.
