New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi on Monday filed a fresh affidavit before the Supreme Court, promising that he will not make inflammatory speeches.
Gandhi was earlier directed to file fresh affidavits of undertaking before jail superintendent, Etah, and also to the apex court.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam had granted two weeks parole to Mr Gandhi on April 16 and had fixed May 1 as the next date of hearing.
In his fresh affidavit, the BJP leader has promised to the court that he will not cause any disaffection among the communities either by words, spoken or written, or gestures and will not make any provocative speech which may lead to disturbance of communal harmony.
Gandhi was arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) by Mayawati government on March 29 for his hate speech and also for violence that rocked Pilibhit on March 28 following his surrender before the court for an offence under Section 153 A of the IPC for creating fear among the Muslims.
He had also allegedly insulted Mahatma Gandhi during his speech on March 8 and 9.
His release on parole was strongly opposed by senior counsel Harish Salve appearing for the UP government.
UP Chief Minister Mayawati has already made it clear that he will be arrested again if he makes any provocative speech.
The BJP leader is to file his nomination paper from Pilibhit on April 22 and has demanded the transfer of Pilibhit DM Ajay Chouhan and also that of SP, Pilibhit, as he apprehends that his nomination paper may be deliberately rejected.
