New Delhi: Suspense is growing over the fate of Varun Gandhi, the controversial BJP candidate from Pilibhit, UP as his anticipatory bail over the hate-speech comes to an end on Friday.
Varun’s alleged hate speech may have pitched him at the centre of a battle between the Election Commission and the BJP, but he is now going all out to make the most of it.
He will be in Delhi on Friday and may court arrest on Saturday in Pilibhit, raising the stakes in the most controversial political game this election.
The day Allahabad High court refused to give him bail, Varun had two options: either to approach the Supreme Court for bail or try and make a louder political statement.
Enjoying total support from the BJP, he seems to be in a mood of going in for the maximum stakes and is likely to go to Pilibhit on Saturday.
In the last 48 hours, Varun has been targetted by three of the most powerful politicians in the country - his cousin Rahul Gandhi and aunt Sonia Gandhi.
Even the Prime Minister described his statements as shameful.
For a man, who has just spent five years in the BJP, the kind of attention his statements have got is unprecedented, at least for himself.
