Kolkata: West Bengal's politicians on Saturday played colours with voters in their constituencies to celebrate Holi - Dol Yatra as it is called in the state - with extra fervour as the assembly elections are round the corner.

Trinamool Congress leader and candidate from Ballygunge Subrata Mukherjee played Holi in the area where the voters smeared him with green colour.

"This is also part of my campaign. Today (Saturday) I play Holi with the voters," said Mukherjee, one of the 228 candidates party leader Mamata Banerjee named Friday.

Sovandeb Chattopadhya, another Trinamool heavyweight, was also all green on face celebrating Holi with voters in Rashbehari, his constituency.

Satarup Ghosh of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), the youngest Left Front candidate, joined his voters in Kasba constituency for the celebrations. In tune with his party colour, Ghosh had red gulaal smeared on his face.

He went from door to door of his constituency, touching the feet of elders.

Holi, the festival of colours, is being celebrated Sunday, but festivities have already begun.

The six-phase assembly elections in the state will be held between April 18 and May 10.
