Vishnu Gupta of the Hindu Sena on Wednesday said he has received a letter threatening him to withdraw from the Krishna Janmabhoomi case or pay for it with his life. Three live cartridges were enclosed with the letter, he said.
Gupta, whose outfit is party to the ongoing case, further alleged that the threat letter was handwritten and sent to his Madhu Vihar address in Delhi. “I want to tell them that I won’t be deterred. We will fight this case to its logical conclusion. The way we legally fought, and now Ram Mandir is under construction in Ayodhya; Gyanvapi matter (in Varanasi) is also sub-judice. We will legally remove the eidgah and construct Shri Krishna temple (in Mathura),” he said.
The Hindu Sena leader further said he has filed a formal complaint with the Madhu Vihar East police station and he has been assured of an inquiry into the matter.
Deputy commissioner of police (east) Apoorva Gupta said they have received the complaint and it is being looked into. “Legal action will be taken as appropriate,” she said.
Gupta spearheads Hindu Sena, which is a fringe outfit known for making allegations against Kerala House in the national capital, saying it serves beef, and for wiping off names of roads named after Mughal dynasts. He became a party to Krishna Janmabhoomi case when his demand that the Shahi Eidgah in Mathura is originally the birthplace of Hindu deity Krishna, was admitted by a local court in December 2022. The Muslim side, however, had filed an objection in the Allahabad High Court.
The case so far
The ban on survey in the Shahi Eidgah mosque of Mathura will remain intact. The Supreme Court has extended the interim stay till April and will hold the hearing for this in the first part of that month. The court has asked all the parties to file written replies.
On December 14, 2023, the Allahabad High Court accepted an application filed by Hindu devotees for the appointment of a commissioner to inspect the disputed premises. It has been legally argued that the birthplace of Krishna is below a mosque in Mathura, and it is necessary to appoint a commission to find out the truth.
