Withdrawal of Indira, Rajiv Gandhi's stamps shows Centre's narrow mindset: Congress
Congress said that the contribution of the two former Congress prime ministers in building India cannot be ignored.

Hitting out at the Narendra Modi government for its move to withdraw postage stamps of former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, Congress leader Anand Sharma said that it reflects the Centre's narrow mindset and insults the country's history.

He also said that the contribution of the two former Congress prime ministers in building India cannot be ignored.

The Centre has decided to discontinue stamps of former prime ministers, Rajiv and Indira Gandhi, under the new definitive theme of postal stamps. The government has replaced 'Builders of Modern India' theme, which included stamps of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi, with 'Makers of India' theme.

However, stamps of Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar and Mother Teresa have been retained.

Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil had on Tuesday said that politics of hatred and vindictiveness is not good for democracy. "Politics, policies need to be opposed and there should not be hatred towards individuals," he said.

"On the one hand, the government discontinues postage stamps of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi, on the other, it plans stamps of Shyamaprasad Mukherji and Deendayal Upadhayaya. This is nothing but vindictiveness," Patil added.
