'Year He was Born, I was at the Border': CM Amarinder on Relationship with Sidhu After 'Punjab Dispute Solved'
Sidhu formally assumed the charge of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, along with four working presidents, at Punjab Congress Bhawan on Friday.

Navjot Singh Sidhu took charge as the president of the Punjab Congress in the presence of chief minister Amarinder Singh on Friday, putting an end to the leadership crisis. Hours before the event, senior leader Rahul Gandhi said that “the Punjab dispute has been resolved”, while the two leaders met over tea in Chandigarh.

After taking charge at the state Congress headquarters, the cricketer-turned-politician said there is no difference between an ordinary worker of the party and its state unit chief. “There is no difference between an ordinary party worker and the state unit chief. Every Congress worker in Punjab has become the chief of the party’s state unit from today,” Amritsar (East) MLA Sidhu said.

During the event, CM Amarinder too put a full-stop to the infighting in Punjab Congress. “We have to strengthen the Congress party in Punjab. I am telling everyone from this stage that we have to support Sidhu and work together for Punjab,” he added.

Explaining his relationship with the Amritsar (East) MLA, the chief minister, who has served the Indian Army, said that when Sidhu was born, he was fighting at the border.

Sidhu and Amarinder Singh have been at loggerheads for the past some time, with Sidhu recently attacking the CM over the desecration cases.

The chief minister also opposed his appointment as the state Congress chief and had said he won’t meet Sidhu until the cricketer-turned-politician apologises for his “derogatory” tweets against him.

Sidhu will formally assume the charge of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, along with four working presidents, at Punjab Congress Bhawan on Friday.

Amarinder Singh and other party MLAs first assembled at Punjab Bhawan, from where they will go to the Punjab Congress Bhawan, the venue of the installation ceremony. Incharge of Punjab affairs at the AICC, Harish Rawat, also attended the event.
