Z-plus security for Muzaffarnagar riots accused MLA

Lucknow: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Sangeet Som, an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots which claimed over 60 lives, has been granted Z-plus security.

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to raise Som's security cover following intelligence reports of threat to his life. CRPF personnel will provide him security only within the boarders of Uttar Pradesh.

Political parties have criticised the move. Congress's Rashid Alvi said, "I am surprised that a person who has been accused of communal violence and against whom there are a number of cases registered is being given so much security."

"An accused being given Z plus security. This can happen only under BJP," added NCP leader Tariq Anwar.

Som had went behind the bars for his alleged role in the communal riots.
