Microsoft has notified all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers via email that the service's price will increase in the coming months. Beginning September 12, the subscription will see a $3 price hike, with renewal costing $19.99 plus applicable taxes.
“Thank you for being an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member. We are planning to update our prices so that we may continue to bring you more value and great games for the very best gaming experience. Starting September 12, 2024, you will be charged USD 19.99 plus applicable taxes every renewal period. You can manage your subscription, how you pay, or cancel your subscription by visiting your Microsoft Account,“ the official email read.
The company had previously shared the details for its decision to make a significant change. The price hike affects only existing subscribers. New subscribers wishing to capitalize on lower prices before they expire will instead pay the revised rate.
According to a PDF file shared by Xbox with its users in India, the current Game Pass Ultimate subscription costs Rs 549 per month. Following the price adjustment, existing members will need to pay Rs 829 per month.
An analyst recently told IGN India, that the price hike was all inevitable. Xbox's Game Pass modifications are a financial reality that almost every subscription service has embraced amid inflation, declining customer uptake and the need for continuous growth.
Microsoft earlier increased the price for the Game Pass Ultimate from Rs 499 to Rs 549 last year. In addition to the change in subscription prices, Microsoft has cancelled the Game Pass for Console plan and introduced a new Xbox Game Pass Standard plan, which would not offer new games from the day of its debut.
In other news, Microsoft recently launched its Xbox TV App on the Amazon Fire Stick models through which users can now play games directly through the app on their TV via cloud gaming. To play the most recent Xbox Game Pass titles, you'll need a compatible Fire TV Stick, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller.
