A few weeks after launching the latest versions of their mobile operating systems iOS and Android, Apple and Google are both rolling out updates to fix bugs and bring new functions to the platforms.iOS 10.1

The main role of this iOS 10 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is to fix various bugs, a little over a month after its initial launch. Owners of Apple's iPhone 7 Plus will also be getting a new "Portrait" mode for the camera (in beta), which blurs the background to make the subject stand out (a technique known as bokeh in the world of photography). Apple promises a host of bug fixes, plus improved Bluetooth connectivity and support for headphones over the Lightning connection. Note that Apple is updating its watchOS (3.1) system too, fixing playlist syncing issues.

Android 7.1

This first update for Android Nougat is only aimed at developers for the moment. It brings several new features that will be rolled out to users at a later date. These include custom shortcuts to specific functions within applications, a night mode, a quick restart function and new emojis (jobs, sports, etc.). Google promises improved memory management too, allowing users to delete several applications at once, for example. Android 7.1 is also compatible with Daydream, Google's virtual reality platform.
