Sharp unveils a 4K smartphone display with 3840x2160 resolution at 806 ppi
The Sharp 4K IGZO displays will offer 806 ppi and will take on Samsung's 4K AMOLED displays which are expected to adorn the Galaxy Note 5 in the next year.

New Delhi: After 4K TVs, it is time for smartphones to sport the ultra high-definition displays. Sharp has introduced a display that will fit in 5.5-inch smartphones in near future and offer a 3840x2160 resolution.

The Sharp 4K IGZO displays will offer 806 ppi and will take on Samsung's 4K AMOLED displays which are expected to adorn the Galaxy Note 5 in the next year.

A BGR report notes that although it is unclear which smartphones will feature the latest display by Sharp, but the company is known to be already supplying the IGZO display technology to Apple for some of its products.

While it makes sense to believe that Apple's upcoming products could feature the IGZO displays, currently the company is keen to extend its Retina display experience across devices. There have been speculations that Apple also has a 5K iMac in its lineup, as well as support for 4K displays in certain Mac computers.

Given the range of resolutions Apple is intending to incorporate in its devices, it would not be surprising to see its next iPhone bringing in the 4K screen resolution.
