New Delhi: Not sure about the adults, but the teens might hail this idea of a new social networking site meant strictly for seniors.

Stitch is a social network designed especially for those over 50 years of age and help them find companionship. Other than offering the good old way of connecting with friends and family, it also lets users find new activities to try with like-minded people.

Marcie Rogo, co-founder of Stitch, explains “many older adults have lots of things they want to do, but nobody to do them with. Stitch meets this need with a unique and vibrant social network with the ability to meet other like-minded people through member-driven group activities, travel, and one-on-one companionship,” Tech Crunch notes.

While it could be confused for a dating site for older adults, Stitch members host group events like wine tastings or trivia nights and currently there are about 20,000 active members and over 50 active Stitch communities.

Other than being a free to use site, Stitch is also available as a paid-for version at $60/year that offers premium features like unlimited profile views, boosted profile positions, and member-to-member phone calls. According to Stitch, about 10 per cent of signups end up converting to premium users.

In a contrast from the current tradition, Stitch has a phone-based customer service platform for its members where they can simply pick up the phone and talk to an executive. This is a crucial element that differentiates Stitch from other platforms because it takes into consideration the comfort seniors have in communicating with people via voice than shooting emails for queries.

The social network is a spinout of a startup called Tapestry, a tablet solution to help senior stay connected in retirement communities.
