New Delhi: The Yahoo-owned blogging service Tumblr is following the footsteps of Facebook and Twitter with its own live video service.

The company is preparing to launch the live video feature on its service starting Tuesday with a series of live broadcasts along with other features to compete with the likes of Facebook Live, Periscope, and Google's YouTube Live.

On its blog, Tumblr has listed a series of planned live broadcasts that will begin at 4.10 PM EST. These include broadcasts from the surface of Mars, a Q&A session with Adam J Kurtz, a basketball lesson from a Harlem Globetrotter, among other things.

According a report on TechCrunch, Tumblr will also lift the curtains off some features for users for live videos. However, it is yet unknown if these features will offer an in-built live streaming option or make the service work as a tool that operates with existing live video services in the market. It is expected that Tumblr will also introduce a larger strategy for real-time content.

The introduction of live video feature comes at a time when Tumblr is struggling to generate revenue Yahoo hoped for.
