WhatsApp’s voice note feature has been around for a long time, and it appears that the Facebook-owned messaging company is planning to upgrade it for a better user experience. According to a report, users may soon be able to manipulate the playback speed by up to 2.0X while also listening at normal speed. The WhatsApp voice note playback option reportedly appeared on WhatsApp beta for iOS v2.21.60.11, though the feature is said to be under development. The same playback option was spotted on WhatsApp beta for Android earlier this month. Meanwhile, WhatsApp is seemingly planning to expand the WhatsApp Web beta programme for iOS and Android beta users soon. This may let users use the platform on the web browser without having to keep the smartphone connected to the internet.
Both WhatsApp voice note playback and web beta updates were spotted by WhatsApp tracker, WABetaInfo. The publication claims that the voice note playback option would let users set the speed at either 1.5X or 2.0X aside from the normal speed. As mentioned, the playback option appears to be under development, and the steps to use the feature remain unclear at the moment. WhatsApp voice notes remains a popular option, and many users would be happy to set the speed when dealing with lengthy voice messages.
On the other hand, the WhatsApp Web beta programme for Android and iOS users, is also in the works, though it is unclear how testers can sign up for the platform. A screenshot by the publication shows that the web beta version will let users use WhatsApp without an internet connection on their smartphone. The development of the beta-web platform seems to be a part of the multi-device functionalities that would reportedly roll out later this year. A support page screenshot shows that users with WhatsApp Web beta cannot use popular features such as the Delete for Everyone. It allows users to delete the message right after sending it accidentally. Both calls and messages will also not function if the other person is not using a recent version of WhatsApp. Lastly, the screenshot notes that users who join this programme will be able to link up to four desktop devices including Facebook Portal, at once.

Meanwhile, Android WhatsApp app users who want to enrol for the beta app, need to open WhatsApp’s page on Google Play Store and scroll down to the bottom to find the ‘Become a beta tester’ panel. The beta programme allows only limited testers at a time, and some users may see the text warning about the ‘maximum number of testers that can participate.’ On the other hand, iOS WhatsApp app users will need to download the TestFlight app by Apple from the App Store and see the apps available to test. If there’s a slot available for WhatsApp beta for iOS, you can join the programme to check the latest updates.
