The group's coach hopes that their win will cast a much-needed spotlight on the lesser-known sports Mallakhamb.

Season 10 of India’s Got Talent recently concluded. Abujhmad Mallakhamb Academy emerged as the winner. The group hailing from Chhattisgarh outshone several finalists, such as Mahila Band, Golden Girls, Zero Degree, Raaga Fusion, and The ART. In addition to the coveted trophy, the group received a prize of Rs 20 lakhs and a brand-new car. Following their remarkable victory, their coach, Manoj Prasad, emphasised that while cricket and football often dominate the sporting landscape in India, Mallakhamb (wrestling on a pole) remains an underrated sport. He expressed hope that their win would cast a much-needed spotlight on Mallakhamb, inspiring more people to appreciate and engage in this unique sport.

In a conversation with Indian Express, Manoj said, “Being on a platform like this is so important for ignored skills as people realise its worth. So many people have already asked us about the procedure to learn it. With time, I hope more and more people support us so that one day we can perform in packed stadiums. I come from a humble background. Every kid in the institution comes from a humble family. It’s not easy for us to survive and train ourselves with limited income. Also, this sport require a certain kind of diet, which needs extra money. I am so thankful to the judges, who recognised our needs and came forward to help us.”
