The human-dog relationship has always been incredibly special. We often have seen dogs showing loyalty to their masters, saving their lives, but it is rarely witnessed humans doing the same. Some incredible piece of news came out of Florida, as an elderly US man was seen to jump in the face of death to rescue his pet dog from a 7-foot-long crocodile, that attacked the dog.
As per a report on the New York Post website, 77-year-old Auwaerter lives with his wife near the Caloosahatchee River in Florida, with his wife and their Italian Mastiff named Roger. He shared that Roger loves water and whenever they visit the nearby river he splashes in. Though they usually go to visit the river very frequently together, something different took place last year.
The 77-year-old man and his Italian Pet Roger were wandering near a river bank. While he thought that his dig would sit by the river, Roger jumped into it to swim alone. He went to the bank of the river which is slightly above the level of the river while his dog was swimming in the river. As the level of the bank was higher, the dog swimming in the river went out of his eyesight. A few moments later, Auwaerter heard the sound of splashing water. He swiftly understood the presence of a crocodile which must have come to the coast.
Racing to the river bank, Auwaerter saw his dog in the jaws of the 7-foot-long crocodile. Being a heavyweightlifter with years of training under his belt, he fearlessly charged toward the crocodile catching his jaws. Amidst the chaos, he noticed that his hand was inside the crocodile’s mouth. He gave his full effort to open its jaws by lifting the back part of the crocodile and striking it to the ground, rescuing his dog from the jaws of the 7-foot-long crocodile.
While fighting for the life of Roger, the crocodile lunged at his left thigh. The owner immediately instructed his wife to call 911 and rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.
