We usually come across stories and possible encounters of people living in haunted homes. They mention some type of presence that does not let them settle in their own houses. However, have you ever heard of a playground being haunted? That too by the spirits of children?

As per Daily Star, the park is known as the Dead Children’s Playground, located in Huntsville, Alabama state, USA. The place sees more ghosthunters than kids, thanks to the lore associated with it and its location. Its modern swings and climbing apparatus give it a more of a standard look, just a place for the kids to burn some energy.

However, the place is far from normal, going by the reports. The locals passing by the recreational area have reported swings moving on their own as well as sightings of orbs or ghostlike figures. So, why are the “ghosts” dwelling in a place like this? The answer is its location, as it is located next to a graveyard, known as the Maple Hill Cemetery. According to the website, it is the final resting place of the victims of the Spanish Flu.

The cemetery is surrounded by limestone caves on its three sides, which gives it an eerie shadowed look, giving way to spooky legends. The moniker Dead Children’s Playground was given to it by the local teenagers, apt for its haunting atmosphere.

According to the legend, the Huntsville children who died during the 1918 Spanish Flu are buried here, almost right next to the playground. While some also believe the “dark spirits” of children who died during the pandemic come out to play in the night. Their peak time is between 10 pm to 3 am. More information states that the 1918 pandemic which spread across the world was particularly worse at Huntsville. Worldwide, it took the lives of 50 million people.
