A mischievous child from Brooklyn, US, who went missing was surprisingly found hiding on his roof by CBS New York’s Chopper 2. The 9-year-old boy was reported missing at around 7 AM, when his parents realized that their child didn’t reach school. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) circulated his description, which was quickly forwarded to the news portal. The helicopter arrived above the building soon after they received the missing report.
Reporter Dan Rice spotted a child perfectly matching the description on the roof and alerted his team, who then contacted the police. The helicopter stayed above until authorities arrived and took the child back to his parents. Interestingly, a resident claimed that they had seen the boy earlier while drinking coffee but didn’t think it was unusual.
Rice explained, “We were dispatched by the assignment desk to see what was going on with the reports of a missing child. We have seen the reports too many times. As my pilot and I were circling around the building, we came across a person sitting in a chair on the rooftop. We zoomed in with the camera, it appeared to be the child that fit the description of the missing child. Our CBS New York news assignment desk called the police department, they sent an officer up to the rooftop and soon enough they found the child sitting in the chair. They gave us a thumbs up and we were able to reunite him with his family."
The reporter was surprised when he saw a child on the roof who matched the missing child’s description. When he shared this with his team, they agreed it looked like the missing boy. They called the police, who after arriving at the scene confirmed the child’s identity. The reporter was amazed by the situation and felt it was a unique experience to help reunite the child with his worried parents.
Reacting to the post, a user asked, “So lucky there was a happy ending. But why doesn’t the building have cameras in the hallways and roof? Why didn’t the parents search the building, including the roof?"
Another shared, “The fact that the kid was able to get access to the Roof is troubling. Building Management will be getting a letter from the Parent’s Attorney."
An individual joked, “Guess someone didn’t want to go to school."
One more suggested, “That is not the building’s fault but the parents fault. The kid was probably trying to cut school but the chopper caught him LOL."
A neighbour shared that he had seen the missing child on the roof in the same morning while having coffee with his wife. The child was sitting on a bench and playing with his iPad. The neighbour assumed that the parents had allowed their child to be there and didn’t think much as the roof was a common area used by the resident. However, when he heard about the missing child, he realised the situation.
