The shocking incident occurred in the market area of Thrissur, near the Medical College, and was captured on video, causing outrage on social media. The elderly man, identified as Ali, is reported to run a grocery shop in the vicinity. According to eyewitness accounts, the woman accused Ali of grabbing her breasts and demanded an apology. In the video, the elderly man can be seen apologising and urging the woman not to involve the police. However, the victim proceeded to strike him with slippers and asserted her intention to file a formal complaint against him.
A second woman present at the scene heard encouraging the assault, claiming that the elderly man had a history of inappropriate behaviour. She alleged that Ali regularly touched the victim’s hand and checked the holy thread she wore. The woman, visibly upset, argued that a mere apology was insufficient after such an act.
Despite the gravity of the incident, there are no reported police actions as of now.
Cases of disturbing sexual assaults come to light almost every day. It was just a few days ago that yet another assault in Kerala was reported. A 77-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old child when she was sleeping by the roadside with her migrant worker parents in this north Kerala region, police told PTI.
This incident was reported in the Nadupuni region, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Kozhinjampara police station. A police officer stated that the perpetrator was a migrant labourer from Tamil Nadu, but provided no other information.
The parents apprehended the offender and turned him over to the police with the assistance of locals. An FIR would be filed, and his arrest would be documented as soon as possible. According to the news agency, the victim was being treated in a local hospital.
