Going on a trip means unlimited fun and entertainment, be it with your family or friends. And if it is something as high-end and luxurious as a cruise ship, you may as well plan to stay for a long time. The same cannot be said for this cruise ship, which is reportedly stranded in Belfast after it encountered several delays due to technical issues.
The ship Villa Vie Residences’ Odyssey, was brought to Queen’s Island in Belfast for some repair work and was to set sail by May 30, commencing the first leg of a three-year trip. It happens to be around 30 years old, and naturally needed updating. But the ship’s stay ended up getting stretched for three months, due to some issues in its rudders and gearbox, reports BBC.
Thanks to the unexpected circumstances, the residents of the ship had to make the city of Belfast their temporary home. As per more information, the passengers can stay within the ship during the day but have to leave it by night. The cabins were priced between 99,999 dollars (Rs 83 lakh) to 899,000 dollars (Rs 7 crore) and the passengers had the option to pay once for the multiyear trip instead of a daily rate.
Passengers who are staying at the ship during the days can enjoy the various amenities provided on board. These include access to a swimming pool, theatre, gym and restaurants. By evening, they have to disembark the ship through the shuttle buses, for their respective hotels.
One of the passengers, Holly Hennessey from Florida, is travelling with her cat, Captain. Talking to BBC, she detailed her experience on the ship. She said, “We can have all of our meals and they even have movies and trivia entertainment, almost like cruising except we’re at the dock.” But the city’s weather came as a shock to Holly. According to her, she never had to use an umbrella this much before coming to Belfast. Despite the situation, Holly wants to stay here as long as she can, she added.
