Man’s Viral Claim On Use of Detergent In Milk Shocks Internet
The entrepreneur discovered this shocking food adulteration practice after being told about it by one of his sales executives back in 2005.

An X user has made a shocking revelation about the use of detergent in milk across certain markets in India. In a now-viral post, the person named Ram disclosed that some milk vendors use detergent to enhance the appearance of milk and make it look whiter and frothier. An entrepreneur, Ram was previously involved in liquid detergent manufacturing. He discovered this shocking food adulteration practice after being told about it by one of his sales executives back in 2005. The sales executive revealed that many customers were purchasing liquid detergents specifically to add to milk. In fact, one of their competitors was offering a similar product with a milder fragrance.

Recounting the incident, the person wrote, “On food safety in India, here is a story that shocked me. Many years ago, I launched a new liquid detergent while working at a large company. One of the sales guys came up to me and said, he’d have sold a lot more if the fragrance wasn’t so strong. I asked if he had got any consumer feedback on the fragrance. That was not the reason. He said a lot of people bought liquid detergents to add in milk.”

“The optical brightener made the look whiter and the detergent added extra froth to the milk. The competitor had a product with a mild fragrance and was preferred by these people. I told the guy we aren’t changing the product. I stopped consuming lassi, yoghurt from those markets after that,” the entrepreneur added.

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “So lucky that I am able to get pure milk.”

Another shared, “Why does the government, especially the health departments in India pretend to be unaware of such situations of ‘Food fraud’.”

“Please educate us which are those markets?” a person asked.

Another wrote, “The detergent also helps neutralize the acid produced by bacteria in un-chilled and unpasteurised milk.”

An individual shared, “Same with the street food made of toxic waste of chicken and illegal chemically concentrated food flavours for brightness and smell.”

One more suggested, “We should have a minimum of 5 years imprisonment for food adulteration.”

The X post has garnered over 6 lakh views so far.
