Paan has been an integral part of Indian culture and lifestyle finding its place among royals and the ordinary man alike. From daily meals to special feasts, Paan has become an essential item for traditional Indian food. Preparing paan or beeda, as it’s known in some parts, is considered as a special skill. Among different varieties of betel leaves Banarasi Paan is a favourite for many. Videos of different flavours of Paan often go viral on social media but recently a similar video has caught the attention of users on social media for its hefty cost. A video of a paan worth Rs 1 lakh has left many stunned.

The Paan Story, a shop in Mumbai’s Mahim, sells this unique paan. The shop is owned by Naushad Sheikh, an MBA graduate who turned down corporate offers to pursue a family business. He puts a royal spin on the classic Gaddi Ka Paan.

The Fragrance of Love premium paan is highly expensive due in large part to its gold foil decoration. Usually reserved for the wedding night, this particular delicacy is much sought after by newlyweds because it’s said to lift the spirits. The two exquisitely made boxes, Prince and Princess, which are filled with saffron and aromatic scents, hold the Fragrance of Love paan. Every purchase includes a marble replica of the Taj Mahal.

What’s even more amazing is the response from others who were shocked by the cost. A picture of the paan was shared on Instagram, generating lakhs of views.

A user in the comments sections humourously stated, “Sabse pehle he chuna laga diya” which literally translates to “Applied the whitewash first” but in Hindi language, it has a deeper meaning. The comment actually means, “He/She deceived/tricked (me/others) right from the start.”

Another person said, “Mere hisaab se Taj Mahal 1 lakh ka hai, paan free hai (In my opinion, the Taj Mahal is worth 1 lakh, and paan is free).”

As the paan is called the Fragrance of Love, a user noted, “Mere dil mai mohabbat nahi hai aisi (There isn’t that kind of love in my heart).”

“Pehli baar itna mehenga chuna lagte dekha hai (This is the first time I’ve seen such an expensive deception),” read a comment.
