Resumes of tech giants Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have resurfaced on social media, offering an interesting peel into the early lives of the two future innovators. Created when they were 18, these vintage documents show the beginning of individuals who later reshaped the world of technology.

Steve Jobs’ 1973 resume highlights his early interest in electronics and technology long before he co-founded Apple. At the time, Jobs was a student at Reed College in Oregon, US, and listed electronics and technology as his special abilities. His resume also mentioned skills like computer and calculator along with design. When asked if he had access to a phone, Jobs said, “None.” His driver’s license status was a “yes,” but when it came to transportation, he wrote, “possible, but not probable.”

Bill Gates’ resume from 1971 is equally intriguing. It showcases his early expertise in programming languages such as FORTRAN, COBOL and BASIC, as well as his familiarity with computers like PDP-10, PDP-8 and CDC-6400. Gates listed his salary at the time as $3500 (approximately Rs 29 lakh) and referred to his ongoing partnership with Paul G Allen, his childhood friend who later co-founded Microsoft with him. The resume notes that the duo designed a “system for traffic engineers to study traffic flow.”

The resumes were shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Jon Erlichman, TV host at BNN Bloomberg and Bloomberg Markets. The caption reads, “Steve Jobs and Bill Gates’ resumes at age 18.”

Another pointed out, “Steve Jobs even wrote the date correctly, something that escapes most Americans.”

An X user commented on the contrasting styles of the tech giants, saying, “That’s funny… Jobs’ resume is hand-written and sloppy, and Gates’ resume is all organized and type-written.”

Meanwhile, a person shared, “Probably the 2 most impactful Resumes of this generation.”

Steve Jobs co-founded Apple in his parents’ garage in 1976. He was forced out of the company in 1985 but returned in 1997 and led its remarkable revival with groundbreaking products like iMac, iPod, iPhone and iPad. He died on October 5, 2011.

Meanwhile, Bill Gates co-founded Microsoft with Paul Allen in 1975, turning it into the world’s largest software company. He is renowned for his extensive philanthropic efforts.
