Swiggy Ex-CTO’s ‘Plain And Simple’ Secret To Scaling Your Business

Swiggy has emerged as the leading food delivery app in India within a decade since its launch. The company, headquartered in Bengaluru, is active in more than 500 cities across the country. Recently, Swiggy’s former chief technology officer (CTO) Dale Vaz revealed the “plain and simple” secret behind scaling the food delivery app and this could help the startups to expand their business.

In a post on microblogging platform X, Dale Vaz asked entrepreneurs to “fall in love with the grind” if they want to see their business grow.

“People often ask me what it took to scale @Swiggy. And they seem disappointed when I don’t give them a single silver bullet. The truth is that scaling a business, an organisation, or tech platform is largely plain and simple execution, done every day, year after year,” wrote Vaz highlighting the importance of consistent execution.

He emphasised the importance of continuously taking baby steps towards growth and wrote, “Showing up and getting the job done, every single day. And then one day, we turn back and are amazed at how far we have come.”

Commenting on this post, an X user wrote, “It’s 1000+ lead bullets and never a few silver bullets. Scaling is a habit, a way of building, and a mindset that gets ingrained. It’s not something you just stop and do one quarter and go back to doing other stuff.”

Swiggy was launched in August 2014. Experts credit Swiggy’s success to its strong delivery network equipped with a wide fleet of delivery personnel. The platform also secured a large customer base due to its easy to use app.

Dale Vaz served as the chief technology officer at Swiggy for five years. He left the company on May 31, 2023, and took to X to reflect on his journey.

The former CTO of the food delivery platform, listed a number of achievements at Swiggy during his tenure such as building “a billion $ Instamart business from scratch”, “scaled 10X on order volume with low latency and high availability”, “deployed 140+ AI models to transform Swiggy into an AI first company”, and more.

He expressed gratitude towards his former colleagues and concluded, “I’ll be cheering on from the sidelines and can’t wait to see what’s next for Swiggy and its customers!”
