Mumbai, known for its fast-paced life and often dubbed the ‘city that never sleeps’, continues to grapple with the challenges of rapid urbanisation. As India’s financial capital, the city has seen significant growth over the past decade, with towering buildings and a steady influx of people migrating from across the country for better opportunities. This rapid population increase has placed immense pressure on Mumbai’s infrastructure, particularly its iconic local trains.
A video circulating on the Internet recently captured a chaotic scene at Kalyan Junction. It shows the issues faced by Mumbai’s local train commuters. Shared on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), the footage shows several women pushing and jostling to board a train. The video pans across the station, revealing a densely packed crowd struggling to find space.
While many people tried to get inside the train, there were others who patiently waited for the next one.

The video quickly went viral as many shared their own experiences of the city’s overcrowded trains.
A user wrote, “Mumbai local trains are always packed because of the city’s narrow layout along the coast, which makes it tough to expand train lines. Plus, with so many people and rapid urban growth, it’s a real challenge to keep up with this huge population here.”
Another commented, “The worst is them cancelling trains every day. Not even a single train ran on time. That causes worse congestion.”
So far, the viral clip has amassed more than 3.7 lakh views on X.
