UK Passengers On Turkey-Bound Flight Finish Alcohol Supply Within 30 Minutes

During a recent flight to Turkey on SunExpress, British passengers managed to deplete the airplane’s entire alcohol supply within just 30 minutes after takeoff. The shocking incident took place on a flight that was notably geared towards golfers, as disclosed by Max Kownatzki, US-German chief executive in an interview with travel weekly TTG, reported Independent. While the flight’s departure airport, date, time and the exact count of the passengers onboard remained unclear, Kownatzki described Britishers as “more high-spend, more hedonistic” compared to travellers from other countries.

Explaining the swift depletion of alcohol supplies on the Turkish flight, Kownatzki said, “We sold out of beer and wine 25 minutes after departure; we haven’t done that in any other market.”

According to TTG, SunExpress has significantly expanded its operation in the UK, nearly doubling the number of airports it operates since 2022, growing from five to nine. Explaining this rapid expansion, Kownatzki said, “Before that, we had some select routes, but nothing major. We are now number three behind Jet2.com and easyJet. We needed to venture further in terms of our network – that made us look at the UK.”

SunExpress offers flights from a range of UK airports including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Luton, Manchester, Bristol and Newcastle, with Turkish destinations including Antalya, Izmir and Dalaman. The airline is expanding its reach to include Leeds Bradford and Stansted by this summer, aiming to serve 1.3 million passengers with 136 flights weekly.

Established 35 years ago through a partnership between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, SunExpress has earned recognition, notably being awarded with Best Leisure Airline in Europe in August 2023.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a drunk passenger created chaos aboard a flight from the UK to Turkey over this weekend. The unruly passenger engaged in a brawl with fellow passengers aboard, forcing the airline staff to call the cops. The video of the man’s aggressive behaviour and fight with fellow passengers and staff quickly went viral.

The footage showed a little girl, travelling with her mother, visibly frightened and seeking safety as the man hurled abuses and threw punches at fellow passengers and staff. The passenger who was wearing a green and white striped Celtic Football Club shirt was particularly aggressive towards flight attendants as they attempted to calm him down upon landing. Reports by New York Post and Daily Record stated that he was heard shouting, “You’re a f—ing f—y” while pointing at another passenger.
