US Woman Can't Believe That Her Mother Used 24-Year-Old Spice To Make Apple Pie

At a time when we usually remain cautious and alert about using medicines and other products before they pass the expiry date, a bizarre instance of a normal kitchen spice being not one or two but 24 years old has got the Internet talking. Sarah McGonagall, a US-based woman recently stumbled upon something unusual after she tasted her mother’s innocuous apple pie while having a bite of her mother’s love desserts, which had clearly stood the test of time. Just like every year, this time too Sarah had a bite of her mother’s dish, however, only to detect an unusual test. Upon questioning the reason for it, she was shocked after she came to know the reason.

After having a bite of the apple pie, Sarah spoke to her mother. Her mother, who, however, got a little bit defensive, explained that she used the same recipe and that it might be the nutmeg’s fault that didn’t blend well. As her mother showed her the jar, Sarah after a very long pause shockingly said, “Mother, this expired 24 years ago.”

Sarah also shared the picture of the jar on her social media handle and wrote, “I told my mom that her apple pie tasted a little weird this year, and she goes “Really? I always use the same recipe. The nutmeg was a bit clumpy, maybe it didn’t blend well…” She takes out the jar to show me, and after a very long pause, I say “Mom…this expired 24 years ago.”

This revelation further prompted Sarah to check other stuff in her mother’s pantry, leaving her more surprised.

After going through the entire inventory, she came to know that with at least 30 spices in the collection, only six of them remained unexpired. Besides that, they also found three shelves of ancient teas, each one a relic of the past and also a hot cocoa mix that dated back to her toddler days.

As soon as the post was shared, many took to the comments section and reacted to it. Some also shared their own similar experiences.
