Brussels attacks: World leaders react to deadly terror bombings
Two blasts targeted the main hall of Zaventem Airport at around 8:00 AM (0700 GMT), with prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw saying the assault likely involved at least one suicide bomber.

At least 34 people are reportedly dead and over 170 are injured in Brussels terror attacks at the city's airport and a metro station.

Two blasts targeted the main hall of Zaventem Airport at around 8:00 AM (0700 GMT), with prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw saying the assault likely involved at least one suicide bomber.

A third hit Maalbeek metro station near the European Union's main buildings, just as commuters were making their way to work in rush hour.

Condemning the terror attacks that ripped through Brussels airport and metro, here is what world leaders said:

Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel: This is a day of tragedy, a black day. Two attacks took place in the morning in Zaventam airport and Maalbeek metro station, blind, violent, cowardly attacks. There are many dead and many wounded, some of them seriously.

French President Francois Hollande: The European continent had been attacked as a whole. Through the attacks in Brussels, the whole of Europe has been hit. France will implacably continue the fight against terrorism both on the international level and at home."

European Union president Donald Tusk: The blasts are terrorist attacks.

The Maalbeek metro blast occurred not far from European Union headquarters.

Polish President Andrzej Duda: The fight against terrorism is the duty of every one of us.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini: It is ... a very sad day for Europe as Europe and its capital is suffering the same pain that Middle East has known and knows every single day.

US President Barack Obama: The thoughts and prayers of the American people are with the people of Belgium.

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy: Terrorism will never defeat us. The union of democrats in Europe will always prevail over barbarism and madness.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven: The blasts are an attack against democratic Europe. We will never accept that terrorists attack our open societies. These attacks mark another low by the terrorists in the service of hatred and violence.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic: The attacks "jeopardise all the values of civilisation that we strongly support".

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi: My heart and spirit in Brussels, Europe.

Italian Interior Minister Angelino Alfano: The Brussels attacks strike the heart of our Europe.

Turkish Foreign Minister Volkan Bozkir: Every effort must continue to fight terrorism without distinction and those who support terrorism.

Polish President Andrzej Duda: The fight against terrorism is the duty of every one of us.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic: The world is shocked by these terrorist attacks, which jeopardise all the values of civilisation that we strongly support.

Other leaders, including Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, took to Twitter to express their support for the Belgian people.
