‘Buzz of PM Modi Snubbing Trump Baseless, Meeting With Kamala Wasn’t on Itinerary’: Top Govt Sources
The sources said India was comfortable with both political parties in the United States and did not want to get stuck in the crossfire of choosing favourites in the run-up to the US Presidential elections

The development follows the successful conclusion of PM Modi’s three-day America tour, which included a mega diaspora event, a bilateral with US President Joe Biden, and a round-table with several tech giants.

“PM Modi was on a hectic official visit and meeting Kamala Harris or Donald Trump was not on the agenda. We are also surprised that no meeting was sought from both the leaders. We have very comfortable relationship with both the political parties of US and the relationship is institutional. The US Presidential elections are coming and we don’t want to be seen in the crossfire,” the sources said.

They also said the propaganda in the United States by Democrats that PM Modi had snubbed Trump was “baseless”. They added that National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval deliberately did not visit the United States because of “domestic compulsions” in Jammu & Kashmir and the Sri Lanka elections.

On the stray protests in US by Khalistanis, the sources said India chose to ignore their agenda as “these are goons and just a handful”.

PM Modi on Monday left for India after wrapping up his “successful and substantial” three-day visit to the US where he also attended the Quad Leaders’ meeting, addressed the Summit of the Future at the UN General Assembly, and held bilaterals with his Japanese and Australian counterparts.

Modi arrived in the US on Friday and on Day 1, he attended the Quad Leaders’ meeting in Wilmington, Delaware. Hosted by President Joe Biden, the Quad Leaders’ Summit took place on Saturday in his hometown Wilmington, Delaware. It was attended by Prime Minister Modi, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia, and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan. In a rare gesture, Biden also hosted Modi for a bilateral meeting in his home, and the Quad summit was held at the Archmere Academy in Wilmington.

Also, with the United States, a very special feature of the bilateral meeting was the return of 297 antiquities to India, a few of which were on display at Biden’s residence during the meeting.

After wrapping up the Quad Leaders’ meeting in Wilmington, Modi left on Saturday for New York for Day 2 to attend an Indian community event at Long Island and later address a key conclave at the United Nations on Day 3.

On Day 3, Prime Minister Modi addressed the UN’s Summit of the Future and said that the “success of humanity lies in our collective strength, not on the battlefield”. Addressing world leaders from the iconic podium of the UN General Assembly hall, Modi, beginning his speech with a “Namaskar”, said he brings the voice of 1.4 billion Indians or one-sixth of humanity to the UN.
