Google users suffered outages and experienced problems with Google products like Gmail, Google Search and YouTube and other services on Monday, news outlets reported on Monday.
The complaints of outages peaked around 9pm (Eastern Time) and the services were restored soon after, according to Downdetector, the platform which tracks online outages.
A report by the Times of India, which cited the Google app status dashboard, said that users experienced issues with Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Chat and Google Tasks early Monday morning (local time).
The report also pointed out that even though the outage was reported globally, users in the UK and US region were impacted the most. “During the issue, users connecting to Workspace services from the UK region may have experienced connectivity issues,” Google said.
In its mini-incident report Google said that the ‘root cause of the issue was a loss of power to networking equipment in the London data centre’.
“Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Chat, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Meet and Google Tasks users connecting to Workspace services from the UK region may have experienced connectivity issues for a duration of 40 minutes,” it said.
