The design of the 2018 VW Polo has evolved a lot and is inspired from the VW Golf. As evident from the images, the body of the new Polo is now longer and wider for more cabin space. It has been lowered too for a sportier stance and improved aerodynamics.
The sixth-generation Polo, as seen in the images shows the R-Line grade of the new VW Polo, which is the more stylish version of the standard variant. The R-Line gets a “R-Line" badge on the upper grille, black lip spoiler, gloss black lower bumper garnish, gloss black roof, large alloy wheels and gloss black side and roof spoilers.
The VW polo GTI, on the other hand, is the flagship variant of the Polo series and gets a gloss black lower bumper garnish, unique honeycomb radiator grille with a red line flowing into the headlamps, honeycomb lower grille, “GTI" badge above the front fenders, bigger wheels, red brake callipers and gloss black roof spoiler.
The 2018 VW Polo is expected to get a 1.0-litre MPI naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, 1.5-litre TSI Evo turbocharged petrol unit and a 1.6-litre TDI turbocharged diesel engine. The VW Polo GTI could get a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine with around 200 PS output.
The production of the new Volkswagen Polo will start this month, from the Navarra factory in Spain. VW could debut the new model at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2017) in September.
About the India launch, it could take place anytime in 2018, probably between first-second quarter of 2018. India is a hot market for premium hatchbacks, and models like Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20 are doing good in the market. VW really needs to up its game to match the rivals.
Expect the VW Polo to be priced close to Rs 6 lakhs in the Indian markets.
