To mark its centenary year, BMW is building 100 individually numbered, individually hand-finished 7 Series sedans.

The BMW Individual 7 Series The Next 100 Years, to give the car its full name, will be offered in two- or four-wheel drive and with three engine choices -- 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8, plug-in hybrid, or monstrous 6.6-liter TwinPower Turbo V12. What's more, regardless of powertrain choice, each example will come with an exclusive pen.

BMW has commissioned Montblanc to create a centennial fountain pen for each perspective owner that uses some of the same design features, materials and paint finishes that will adorn the car to ensure an exact fit.

Such a gesture may seem gimmicky but BMW has a thriving bespoke car business complete with a dedicated team of craftspeople that create unique variants of the marque's models under the ‘Individual' brand.

Therefore, the idea behind the model, its features, and its free pen is to honor the old-world concept of luxury and marry it with the latest technologies and innovations -- such as remote-controlled parking or gear changes decided autonomously via a GPS system -- that will come to define the future of comfort and exclusivity.

So as well as cutting-edge infotainment, connectivity and driver safety and assistance systems -- each example will come with every equipment specification the company offers as standard, including a panoramic glass roof -- the car' interior is finished almost entirely in contrasting black and "smoke White" fine-grain Merino leather.

The seats are quilted with hand-woven piping while the floor mats and seat belts are made from Alcantara. The surfaces not dressed in leather are instead finished with piano black wood veneer.

The car's exterior boasts a unique centennial blue paint finish, forged lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels with a V-spoke design and handcrafted badges.

The final touch is a plaque denoting the model's example number between one and 100, on the center console's cup holder cover.

What's your reaction?
