Dubai is one of the hottest destinations for tourists and investors alike. Indians, especially, visit Dubai in large numbers, seeking both jobs and tourism. Our reasons were, however – attending the 2017 Dubai Airshow, one of the largest gathering of aircraft companies from around the globe. Post the Dubai Airshow 2017, we also explored Dubai on the Jaguar XF, to know what the country has to offer to the tourist coming to this Middle-Eastern country from across the globe!

Dubai Airshow 2017

The Dubai Airshow impressed us with its outstanding display of products from commercial and defense industry, and also the future of aviation. Commercial planes like the Airbus A380, with customized business class were the star attraction at the Al-Makthoum Airport, where the Airshow was held.

But it was the actual display of flying prowess of defense fighter jets that enthralled the audience at the show. From the super capable F22 Raptor from Lockheed Martin to Sukhoi 35 MKI, fighter jets displayed some fancy maneuvering and dig fighting techniques. Al Fursan, the acrobatic display team also put up a brilliant show and displayed jaw dropping stunts.

Exploring Dubai

Once the Airshow was over, we decided to explore Dubai, in the lovely Jaguar XF. Our first stop was the Burj Al Arab hotel on the banks of Jumeriah beach. The uber-luxury hotel has long served as the identity of Dubai. But with the completion of Burj Khalifa, Burj Al-Arab is no more the icon that represents Dubai. The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, standing close to 900 metres above the sea level.

The beautiful building is situated in the same complex of Dubai mall, which happens to be one of the world’s biggest shopping mall. At the courtyard of the Mall is a lake where Dubai Fountain show takes place every evening. The 5 minute show is designed by the artists who worked on the fountain show of Bellagio, Las Vegas. The dancing fountain show is one of the main attractions in Dubai.

Public transport is easy in Dubai and the Dubai Metro connects almost every main spot in the country. If you are an adventure junkie, Dubai has a lot in store for you. There’s the much coveted Dubai Skydiving, situated near the Dubai Marina, which is a must do activity to see the view of Dubai Palm islands from the sky.

Dubai is a country calved out of a desert and Dubai desert safari, takes you in the heart of the desert, in the best of the way. SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser can be seen in abundance, surfing over the golden sands of the Dubai desert, much like surfing on the ocean. The adrenaline filled adventure ends by watching the glorious sunset from the desert.

If you are an auto junkie, like we are, Dubai is the perfect place to visit, with a lot of fancy cars roaming in the streets. Dubai has an interesting nightlife, but if you are someone who loves to explore the world, Dubai will let you do that, by visiting only one place – The Global Village.

Situated in the outskirts of Dubai, the Dubai Global Village is an annual settlement that takes place from November to April and has pavilions from 30 countries, showcasing the best of the nations. Music, food, performances, food and products from the respective nations can be enjoyed at one place. India, however, has one the biggest pavilions in the village.

There’s also a stunt arena where the monster truck show can be seen after the sun sets. The show offers a proper storyline, with actors and cars performing stunts. But there’s also another side of Dubai, which nobody talks much about. While the modern infrastructure is something everyone knows and visit, for shopping old Dubai is the best place to visit.

Old Dubai is the reminiscent of ancient Dubai with yellow colored old shaped buildings. The gold souk and spice souk are the main attractions in the area for anyone looking to buy Gold or spices in Dubai. There’s also a small creek dissecting the old Dubai that can be crossed by old styled wooden boats.

All in all, Dubai is one of those accessible countries from India that has a lot to offer for travelers across all the age groups, with different liking and taste.
