InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent company of IndiGo, India’s leading airline, and Archer Aviation, a leading developer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, have announced a groundbreaking partnership to launch and operate an all-electric air taxi service in the country.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards revolutionizing urban mobility, offering passengers a faster, cleaner, and more convenient way to travel between cities.
Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding (MOU), InterGlobe Enterprises and Archer will work together to explore the feasibility of introducing eVTOL aircraft into India’s aviation ecosystem. The partnership aims to establish a network of vertiports, or take-off and landing vertiports for eVTOL aircraft, across key cities, enabling passengers to seamlessly integrate air taxis into their daily commutes.
The initial focus of the collaboration will be on providing a sustainable and efficient solution for intra-city travel. With a target flight time of approximately seven minutes, passengers can expect to cover the 27-kilometer distance between Delhi’s Connaught Place and Gurugram in a fraction of the time it currently takes by car. This significant reduction in travel time will not only alleviate traffic congestion but also contribute to a cleaner environment by reducing carbon emissions.
