Namma Yatri, Bengaluru’s most used auto-hailing app, created earnings of over Rs 180 crore for its driver since its launch last year, an Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) employee said in a LinkedIn post.
The post also specified that the ONDC-backed auto-ride app helped auto drivers save almost Rs 19 crore with the help of their zero-commission model as opposed to its prime business rivals Ola and Uber.
“Namma Yatri (enabled by ONDC) drivers in Bengaluru have till date collectively earned 189 Cr. 100% of these earnings go to the drivers through a zero commission model. Even if one were to conservatively assume 10% commissions to big players previously, the drivers have collectively saved about 19 Cr in commissions. The numbers are only going to get bigger and better with scale.” an ONDC employee by the name of Tina Gurnaney wrote.
Namma Yatri, developed by the Auto Drivers’ Union, was launched in November last year to tackle the issue of rising fares from auto drivers and the flaring cost of ride-hailing apps in Bengaluru.
Hosted on ONDC, it is an initiative of the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
Unlike Ola, Uber and other such platforms, the Namma Yatri connects customers directly to auto drivers and aims to tap into the market with affordable fares for customers by removing the middlemen.
For each trip, the Namma Yatri app charges Rs 30 for a distance of up to 12 km and above that, Rs 15 for one km. Apart from that, the app charges a booking fare of Rs 10, and the drivers also have an option of increasing it up to Rs 30.
The auto-hailing app began charging subscriptions in August 2023. ARDU members believe that the subscription fees – unlike the commission fee model of aggregators apps – are charged to cover maintenance, customer care and other technological services offered by the app.
