Update 1: Tata launches the Zest sedan in India; prices start at Rs 4.64 lakh

The Tata Zest hits showrooms today. Although, the buzz around the new sedan from Tata Motors was enough to get wannabe owners to start booking the car online already. All those who shelled out Rs 21,000 for the booking can now heave a sigh of relief and get to picking what variant suits them best.

The Zest will come in both petrol and diesel configurations. While the five-speed manual will be standard for both the petrol and diesel, it is only the latter which comes with an AMT. The 1.2-litre Revotron petrol makes 90PS/140Nm.

The engine enables three driving modes - Eco, City and Sport. The diesel is the familiar 90PS 1.3-litre unit also featured in the Manza, Vista D90 and a host of Maruti, Fiat and Chevy cars in India.

There are also many segment first features - projector headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, follow-me-home lights and a touchscreen audio system with Bluetooth facility. We have driven the car and the dynamics of both the petrol and diesel models are right up there with the best in class. We expect the Zest to come at prices starting from Rs 5 lakh.
