Volkswagen has officially taken the wraps off the all new, eighth-generation Passat. The car features an all new body that is actually 2mm shorter than before but features an extended wheelbase tha''s 79mm longer which VW says results in a more spacious cabin and boot. The car is also slightly lower and wider than before while managing to weigh 80kg less than the old car.
The new Passat gets a host of engine options, the highlight of which is a new twin turbo four-cylinder diesel engine that displaces two litres. This engine produces 240PS and a very impressive 500Nm which is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Lower models will be driven via the front wheels. VW will also offer a plug-in hybrid which offers a claimed range of 960km.
Pricing details will be out when the car is displayed at the Paris Motor Show in October while UK deliveries will begin by early 2015. We expect an India launch towards the later half of 2015.
