The vintage beauties were part of the erstwhile royal families which ruled the roads in the yesteryears. Cars, which are 80 to 120 years old, are used by the royal family members of Bohar, Rajasthan and other parts of the country. The luxury vintage cars are also considered to be India’s golden age of the automobile industry was when the country’s obscenely rich Maharajas.
On Friday, these vintage cars moved on the streets of Mysuru city, Karnataka as part of the Dasara celebrations, turning the heads of the local people to witness their charm. The rally was a captivating spectacle featuring over 24 classic automobiles from bygone eras.
The rally started with a captivating Vintage Car Show hosted at M Gopinath Shenoy (MSG) Vintages in the Hebbal Industrial Area near National Marbles, close to the Infosys campus. Industrialist Gopinath Shenoy has a passion for acquiring, preserving and showcasing vintage and classic automobiles. Over the years, he has invested considerable time and resources in his pursuit of these historic vehicles.
The rally was inaugurated by Dr KB Ganapathy in the presence of Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha, MLA TS Srivastava, BJP leader Giridhar, Gopinath Shenoy, wife Savithri Shenoy and son MG Madhav Shenoy.
The car rally covered the city through Ring Rad, Hunsur Road, Crawford Hall, Hinkal, Double Road, Mysore Race Club, Lalitha Mahal Road, Field Marshal KM Cariappa Circle and reached Shenoy’s bungalow near Kurubarahalli Circle.
Shenoy told the media that the Land Vanguard and Rolls-Royce cars used by the Ramgarh Royal Family in Bihar and the cars used by the royal families of Rajasthan and others were displayed.
Shenoy who owns nearly 42 vintage vehicles, the craze for classic vehicles started nearly 20 years ago when he visited a museum in Bengaluru. Shenoy witnessed four to five vintage vehicles which were beautifully restored and displayed. Initially, he proudly owned three vintage cars but his passion grew to 42 vehicles and a few of them, are currently under restoration.
Morris Minor, Austin, Roadmaster, Rolls-Royce, Range Rover, Volkswagen Beetle, Cadillac and others were also part of the rally.
Shenoy mentioned that it is a challenging task to maintain the vintage cars and the present model cars have a lot of difference with vintage cars which are incomparable. To restore and preserve, he has set up a garage and the unit has all the necessary facilities to maintain the vehicles.
