Instances of harassment are escalating in Bengaluru, as evidenced by the increasing number of posts on the ‘Bangalore’ subreddit where users recount distressing encounters in auto-rickshaws, metro stations, and various other settings. In a recent incident, a Reddit user shared a disturbing experience involving their friend who was groped by a man in a crowded metro, leaving her traumatised and bewildered. Frustrated by the incident, the user turned to social media for guidance on how to handle such situations, and the platform did not disappoint.
The account began with the user, with the handle @proteincarbs, recounting the circumstances that led to the unsettling incident. She shared that her friend, who typically takes a bus to college, decided to take a metro on a recent Monday. “Around 8:50 AM at Majestic, the metro was extremely overcrowded, much more than usual, with a lot of pushing. Even the lady responsible for managing passenger flow let an unusually large number of people into the train at once,” she began. It was at this point that a man, taking advantage of the crowd, attempted to inappropriately touch the woman.

Soon, Redditors came to her rescue, with one stating, “I work in this organization. If you file a compliant action will be taken because Metro is full under cctv surveillance and tweet the compaint by tagging @cpronammametro”. Another, identifying as a social worker in Bengaluru, offered assistance, “Please reach out to me so that we can speak about this and figure out the best way to move forward.” Many users also commended her for being a caring and helpful friend.
