New Delhi: If you are planning a holiday this winter, here's some good news. All international airlines will be allowed to operate with unlimited capacity on their existing routes from December 1 to January 31.
International flights coming to India and Indian flights on international routes can increase their seating capacity beyond what is allotted to them officially.
This essentially means the airlines can operate bigger aircraft on the existing routes.
For example, if an airline operates a smaller Boeing on an international route, it now has the option of replacing it with, say, a Boeing 747 Jumbo.
This would not only mean an increase the passenger capacity, but also cheaper tickets.
The move comes keeping in mind the increased number of passengers during the peak tourist season. However, airlines cannot increase the number of flights in and out of the country.
While this move may find favour with many airlines and passengers in the peak tourist season, it’s too early to for it to find takers as of now.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced plans to tighten security in airports and train stations.
