France's Essec Business School and IIM Ahmedabad have entered into a student exchange programme form the year 2008.

New Delhi: IIM Ahmedabad has signed an agreement with France's Essec Business School to offer double degrees concurrently to their students.

Every year five students from each B-school will cross over in three batches for a one-year residential course at no extra tuition fee.

The agreement was signed at the French Embassy in Delhi and is an effort by the top B-schools of India and France to give some of their students an opportunity to live in different business environments.

The Director of IIM-A, Bakul H Dholakia says, "One of the clauses is French student pays tuition fees of their institutes, Indian student pays Indian tuition fee, however living cost is to be borne by students-cost will be high for Indian students studying there so we are looking for sponsorships, seeking French government help."

Both the institutes are testing the waters. Based on experience, they may decide to take the experiment forward after three years.

The President of ESSEC Group, Pierre Tapie says, "What happens in India is important to the world. As a world-class business school we want to be strongly in Asia."

Students entering IIM-A through the 2007 common admission test will be given a choice of going to Essec.

Apart from a cross-cultural experience, this will open up the European job market for Indian students.
