Installation Work Of ANPR Cameras At Toll Plazas Underway In Hisar And Rohtak

India is set to install automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras at toll plazas. With its help, toll tax will be deducted from the number plate of the vehicle instead of Fastag. The installation work of ANPR cameras has started at toll plazas in the Hisar and Rohtak districts of Haryana. After two months, the toll tax will be deducted from the number plate of the vehicle at both these toll plazas. It will also help in catching the fake number plates installed in vehicles. After the trial at these two toll plazas is successful, it will be implemented in Haryana, followed by other states of the country. Toll companies believe that this will stop fraud at toll plazas. Under the new system, the vehicle’s number plate will be linked to Fastag’s bank account. As soon as the vehicle reaches the toll, the camera recognises the number plate and deducts the toll tax.

Automatic number plate recognition-based scanning cameras and new computer systems are being installed at Ramayan Toll Plaza in Hisar and Rohtak Toll. These cameras recognise the number plates through digital medium.

The vehicle number and model will also be visible on the screen. As soon as the vehicle comes near the toll, a red light will be lit. The vehicle will stand there until the operator turns the light green. Along with this, the vehicle number and model of the vehicle will also appear on the screen. If the driver’s fastag is inoperative, then the scanned number plate will send a message to the toll company from the bank’s server. It will also tell whether this fastag is original or not.

Now in India, vehicles are fitted with high-security registration plates, that is, HSRP. It contains all the details of the vehicle. All the information related to the vehicle is available from such number plates. The government started installing these special number plates in 2019 itself. The government has asked all passenger vehicles to install company-fitted number plates. It will help in curbing the fraud at the toll plazas. With the steps going digital, it will be much easier to track the vehicles, their owners and routes.
