Civil Aviation secretary puts the blame on surging costs of jet fuel.

New Delhi: Losses at Indian airlines may double in 2008/09 from Rs 4,000 cr the year before due to surging costs of jet fuel, the civil aviation secretary told reporters on Wednesday.

Ashok Chawla was speaking after meeting airline companies. He said he asked the carriers to cut costs.

Aviation Minister Praful Patel has written a letter to the Prime Minister asking for his intervention. He is likely to give a presentation before the PM and finance minister on June 11.
