The markets have more ground on Friday and were trading deep in the red in the afternoon session.

Mumbai: The markets have more ground on Friday and were trading deep in the red in the afternoon session. At 14.02 hours (IST), the Sensex was down 291.27 points or 2.05 per cent at 13937.61, and the Nifty down 82.15 points or 1.97 per cent at 4095.7.

About 706 shares have advanced, 1641 shares declined and 73 shares are unchanged. Pharma, oil and gas, bank and metal stocks are among the top losers. Select auto, capital goods and IT stocks are providing support at the lower levels.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Satyam, Bajaj Auto, Maruti Udyog. Top losers on the Sensex are Cipla, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Reliance.

Top gainers on the Nifty are Siemens, Satyam, BPCL. Top losers on the Nifty are Cipla, Suzlon Energy, Sterlite Ind.

Earlier in the morning, the markets opened weak with the Sensex falling by over 118 points despite better-than-expected quarter earnings posted by Reliance Industries.

The BSE-30 share index, Sensex, which had ended 11 points higher in extremely volatile trade on Thursday, lost 118.76 points at 14,110.12 points in the first five minutes of the trading. Similarly, on the wide-based National Stock Exchange, Nifty fell 50.35 points at 4,127.50.

Heavy-weight Reliance Industries stocks were down by Rs 27.50 at Rs 1569 on fresh spell of selling by funds as well as retail investors.

Other draggers were Grasim Industries, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Lever and Infosys Technologies. However, Bharti stocks remained firm in anticipation of strong earnings.
