NSE Nifty hit an all-time high of 4,295.60 points in early trade on sustained buying of heavy-weight stocks by funds.

New Delhi: Markets opened on a firm note on Monday with Sensex firming up by over 0.9 per cent or 130 points to trade at 14,468 levels. The wide-based National Stock Exchange's Nifty hit an all-time high of 4,295.60 points in early trade on sustained buying of heavy-weight stocks by funds.

The index was up by 47.45 points to hit the new record in the first five minutes of trading. It had last touched an intra-day high of 4,291.40 points on May 23.

Stock brokers said firming global markets mainly triggered buying in heavy-weight stocks by foreign as well as domestic funds on the bourses. All the key sectoral indices were in the positive zone with sizeable gains, contributing support to the Sensex.

Auto stocks led rally with MRF maintaining steady at Rs 3,985 levels gaining over five per cent since Friday. Cummins India, Amtek Auto, Bajaj Auto, Punjab Tractors, Hindustan Motors, Apollo Tyres and Maruti Udyog also logged smart gains.

Among metal scrips, Jindal Stainless, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Jindal Steel & Power, Sesa Goa, Ispat Industries, Hindalco, Maharashtra Seamless and Sterlite Industries are trading in the green.

Reliance Petroleum, HPCL, Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Ambuja Cements and BHEL were top gainers on NSE. Technology majors – Infosys Technologies, Satyam Computer, TCS and Wipro lost ground.
