Nirupama Rao joins Network18's board of directors
Nirupama Rao is a former foreign secretary and headed the Indian missions in Colombo, Beijing and Washington.

New Delhi: Retired senior Indian diplomat Nirupama Rao has been inducted on the board of directors of Network18 Media & Investments Limited. The approval of Rao's appointment by Network18's board of directors was shared with the stock exchanges on Wednesday afternoon.

Nirupama Rao is a former foreign secretary and headed the Indian missions in Colombo, Beijing and Washington.

"Ambassador Rao brings an insight of the external world and the media," Adil Zainulbhai, chairman of N18 said. "Also, she is a pioneer in the digital world and we really look forward to her contribution to our emerging strategies."

When contacted, Rao said she looked forward to her role as an independent, non-executive additional director. "Media and the brave, new and exciting world of communications in the public sphere has been a matter of deep and abiding interest to me," she said.

Network18 has also inducted media veteran AP Parigi as group CEO in January. The board now comprises Zainulbhai, Rao, banking veteran Deepak Parekh, corporate lawyer Rajiv Luthra, technology and media expert Vinay Chhajlani, entrepreneur Raghav Bahl, journalist Rohit Bansal and finance expert Dhruv Kaji.

Network18 is broadcaster of CNBCTV18, CNN-IBN, IBN7 and eTV and also operates a number of websites including IBNLive, Moneycontrol, Firstpost, News18.com and IBNKhabar.
