Floods caused due to Cyclone Michaung have wreaked havoc in various areas of Tamil Nadu, leading to disruptions in daily life, casualties and property damage. In response to the crisis, actor Thalapathy Vijay has urged his fan club “Vijay Makkal lyakkam” on Instagram to collaborate with government authorities in providing relief efforts.
He penned a note on his Instagram, “Due to the heavy rains of Cyclone Michuang in Chennai and its suburbs, the public including children, women and the elderly are suffering a lot. There are reports that thousands of people are suffering without water, food and adequate basic facilities. There are still many voices on social media asking for help to rescue from the flooded area”, highlighting the urgency of rescue efforts in the inundated areas.
“I request people of welfare club members to volunteer to help those in need to what extent they can in the rescue missions undertaken by the government. Let us join hands to remove grief,” he added.

Even the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin assessed the impact of Cyclone Michaung in Chennai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed condolences to the families mourning the loss of their loved ones due to the cyclone. Tamil Nadu government has formally requested an urgent interim relief fund of Rs 5,060 crore from the Central government.
In the wake of Cyclone Michaung, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department has decided to postpone the half-yearly exams for students in affected areas. The state government has rescheduled exams in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts. School principals in these regions are entrusted with organising examinations according to the recovery status of their areas, and they are directed to offer diverse question papers.
The half-yearly exams are scheduled to commence today, December 7, in the unaffected districts of the state. For students in classes 11 and 12, the Tamil Nadu board half-yearly exams are set to take place from December 7 to December 22. Examinations for Classes 11 and 12, organised by the Directorate, will be conducted in two sessions: 9:45 am-2:45 pm and 1:30 pm-4:30 pm respectively.
